HashiCorp Nomad has achieved a major milestone by successfully deploying 2 million Docker containers on 6,100 hosts across 10 AWS regions in just 22 minutes. This feat demonstrates the scalability and stability of Nomad, an orchestrator designed to handle high-performance deployments at any scale. The challenge was inspired by previous benchmarks and aims to showcase Nomad's ability to robustly handle extreme loads as customers grow their businesses. The test results show that Nomad can maintain its scheduling throughput even with a large number of containers, and the deployment was made possible by using 3 Nomad servers and over 6,000 clients distributed globally, with all containers running on AWS Spot instances, resulting in cost savings of 68%. This achievement signifies product maturity and stability, and HashiCorp will continue to collaborate with partners to push the performance of Nomad further.
