Multi-CDN for Global Content Delivery
Blog post from Harper
Harper presents a multi-CDN streaming architecture designed to maintain consistent access controls, token revocation, session tracking, and account-sharing limits across providers such as Fastly and Akamai while CDNs continue delivering video content. Its multi-region Fabric platform places shared application logic and data nearer to viewers, with automated provisioning, replication, routing, and failover intended to reduce latency and simplify expansion compared with independently coordinating regional access services and synchronized data stores. Harper also supports Dynamic DNS Optimization, using CDN health, usage, performance, and contract information to adjust traffic distribution, while player or manifest steering manages switches during playback. The approach emphasizes tradeoffs between centralized and multi-region access checks, including latency, synchronization complexity, caching limitations, and outage behavior, and recommends piloting a stream across two CDNs to test account limits, revocations, reconnections, provider switches, performance, costs, and regional failures before wider deployment.
