In preparation for the 2023 holiday season, a Fortune 100 retailer aimed to surpass Amazon in Google Search rankings for their product pages, focusing on improving page load times after other optimizations were completed. Facing limitations with their existing CDN, they partnered with Harper in August 2023, using its cache technology to enhance their existing Akamai CDN infrastructure. This strategy targeted improving the Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) metric, crucial for faster page loads, especially for the 42% of product pages that were not accelerated by the current CDN setup. The integration of Harper's long-tail caching capabilities allowed the retailer to store over 85 million keys in-memory, achieving a significant 50ms improvement in LCP and reducing origin requests by 30%. Deployed across eight Akamai Connected Cloud locations, this enhancement not only accelerated over 550 million page loads but also increased revenue and reduced server load during peak holiday traffic. Impressed by these results, the retailer is exploring broader applications of Harper's technology to further optimize their systems. The collaboration between Akamai and Harper highlights a seamless integration that provides efficient, high-performance managed services to meet complex customer requirements.
