DataStax, the company behind a scalable NoSQL data platform based on Apache Cassandra, significantly improved its engineering processes by adopting Harness Continuous Delivery as-a-Service. This transition allowed the DataStax Astra team, led by Frank Moley, to overcome the challenges of managing the Spinnaker platform, which had become cumbersome due to its time-consuming deployment processes and debugging inefficiencies. By leveraging Harness, the team achieved a 98% reduction in deployment troubleshooting time, cutting it from one hour to under a minute, and reduced onboarding time for new services from hours to minutes. The adoption also resulted in a 20-30% reduction in engineering toil, enabling a more efficient implementation of pipelines with GitOps and GitSync capabilities. This change facilitated best-practice continuous delivery for 25-30 engineers, allowing DataStax to focus on dynamic feature branching deployments and improving transparency and trust in service versions across clusters and environments.
