Organizations Are Confident Their Agents Are Behaving. But They Can't Check. | Harness Blog
Blog post from Harness
A Harness survey of 700 organizations deploying AI agents found that 74% to 77% report confidence in their testing, security, inventory, cost, and rollback capabilities, yet many lack controls capable of verifying those claims. While 75% believe their agents are secure end to end, only 23% use dedicated agent-security tools in production, and although 77% believe they maintain complete inventories of agents, MCP servers, and LLMs, just 44% use active discovery tooling. Testing and release practices show similar gaps, with only 19% having automated gates that block every faulty release and many organizations making production-promotion decisions case by case. The report argues that conventional code-management and security tools often do not address agent-specific risks, especially because agent behavior can vary between runs, and notes that 58% of respondents have experienced more production incidents per 100 changes since adopting agents. It recommends organizations verify their security monitoring, inventory discovery, testing gates, and promotion standards with concrete evidence rather than relying on confidence, particularly as 76% expect to invest in agent lifecycle tooling within six months.
