AWS re:Invent 2020 adapted to the challenges of the year by transforming its traditional week-long Las Vegas conference into a three-week virtual event, enabling participants to engage from home and explore a wide range of sessions and activities. Gremlin, a remote-first company, was eager to connect with the AWS community and share insights from hosting events like Failover Conf and Chaos Conf. They participated in re:Invent by offering interactive experiences at their virtual booth, such as a contest to win a Sonos 5 and opportunities to learn about Chaos Engineering and system reliability. Attendees were encouraged to familiarize themselves with the virtual platform Kaltura to optimize their experience and to engage with fellow participants via online platforms such as Slack and Twitter. The event highlighted the importance of balancing virtual participation with personal well-being and encouraged attendees to take scheduled breaks to manage the demands of remote attendance.
