Graphite's redesign of its Pull Request (PR) page aimed to create a more intuitive and visually clear experience for users, addressing the cluttered interface that previously overwhelmed them. Drawing inspiration from GitHub while maintaining a unique identity, the overhaul focused on reducing visual noise and incorporating new features like floating comments and a rich text editor to enhance accessibility and participation. Floating comments were introduced to maintain reviewers' focus by allowing comments to hover contextually beside relevant code, while the rich text editor catered to non-technical collaborators unfamiliar with markdown syntax. The redesign process involved experimenting with different layouts for the stack of PRs, ultimately retaining the original horizontal layout for better readability and usability. The iterative design approach, which included internal testing and refinement, ensured a smoother and more cohesive user experience, reinforcing Graphite’s commitment to making code reviews faster and more efficient.
