Nutanix, a leader in cloud software, has transitioned its service architecture from virtualized environments to container-based microservices, using a custom microservices platform (MSP) that incorporates Kubernetes and additional functionalities like logging and monitoring. At ObservabilityCON 2021, Rohith Subramanyam highlighted the challenges of container monitoring, such as their ephemeral nature and shared resources, and explained how Nutanix addresses these by integrating Prometheus with its existing Prism Alerts system. This integration, facilitated by a system adapter called alerts-broker, merges the advanced features of Prism with Prometheus's alerting capabilities, allowing alerts to be transformed and displayed on Prism. Nutanix also heavily relies on Grafana dashboards, particularly the pod resource dashboard, to monitor resource consumption and ensure optimal performance of its microservices platform. This setup enables Nutanix to manage resources effectively and adjust them as needed when enhancing or adding new features to their components.
