New Resources for Contributors to the Grafana Project
Blog post from Grafana Labs
Grafana, an open-source project, encourages contributions from developers and technical writers worldwide, offering various opportunities such as testing the UI, reporting issues, fixing bugs, and improving documentation. Recent initiatives aim to support new contributors, particularly technical writers, with resources like a dedicated #docs Slack channel for direct interaction with the core team, and comprehensive documentation guidelines available on GitHub. These include a Documentation Style Guide that outlines Grafana-specific rules on style, voice, and file-naming conventions, helping contributors create consistent and accurate documentation. The Grafana 6.0 release updated the UI significantly, but its documentation remains outdated, providing numerous opportunities for contributors to update and standardize content. Brenda Harjala, a technical writer, has been instrumental in enhancing the contributor experience since September 2019, making it easier for new contributors to engage with the project.
