Three layers, one repo: a tour of google/adk-recipes

Google’s restructured open-source repository, google/adk-recipes, serves as a curated single source of agent-development content for Google Cloud’s Agents CLI, Agent Garden, Gemini Enterprise, and compatible third-party coding assistants. It organizes machine-readable recipes into core reference patterns, plugins containing installable industry-specific skills, and contrib end-to-end deployable services, with manifests, assistant guidance, Docker support, tests, and CI validation. The core layer includes Horizon, a long-horizon agent harness addressing cross-session memory, sandboxing, secrets, guardrails, resumable workflows, and behavioral evaluations. Its first fully developed plugin vertical is retail, offering product-search setup using BigQuery, Vertex AI embeddings, and Vector Search, alongside virtual try-on using Gemini image models and Veo video generation; these skills can be installed through the open npx skills CLI and guided through conversational configuration and quality checks. The contrib layer turns these patterns and skills into deployable services, including retail shopping and virtual try-on agents, while the overall structure is intended to help developers and coding assistants progress from reusable design patterns through domain-specific setup to hosted agent applications.
