New security protections to reduce risk from unverified apps
Blog post from Google Cloud
Google has implemented new security measures to protect users from unverified applications by introducing an "unverified app" screen for newly created web apps and Apps Scripts requiring OAuth access, replacing the previous "error" page. This update informs users that an app is pending verification, thereby reducing the risk of phishing and improving transparency. Additionally, developers can now test their apps more easily since users can acknowledge the "unverified app" alert without completing the OAuth verification process first. These protections are also being extended to existing apps, requiring some developers to undergo a verification process. These changes aim to enhance security for both users and developers, fostering a safer ecosystem while making it easier for developers to prepare apps for launch.
