How an Android developer in Guatemala advocates for women through the Google Developer Groups community

Cecilia Castillo's journey into mobile development began when she joined a Google Developer Groups (GDG) chapter in Guatemala, motivated by her desire to explore new technological horizons beyond her background in ASPX and Ruby on Rails. Through GDG, she not only honed her Android development skills but also found a supportive community that inspired her to advocate for women's involvement in technology. Her involvement with GDG led to her attending the transformative Google I/O in 2013, after which she helped organize Guatemala's first International Women’s Day (IWD) event to create platforms for women to share their technical expertise. Over the years, Cecilia's efforts have been instrumental in expanding IWD events and GDG activities, fostering a network of female tech leaders across Latin America. Today, she is a Senior Mobile Engineer at PayPal and continues to contribute to GDG as a co-organizer and Women Techmakers ambassador, emphasizing the importance of diverse community engagement in the tech industry.
