Google Home is officially ready for your Matter devices and apps
Blog post from Google Cloud
In December 2022, Google announced that its Google Nest and Android devices are now equipped to support Matter, the new connectivity standard for smart home devices, released by the Connectivity Standards Alliance. This update allows Android devices and Google Nest speakers, displays, and Wi-Fi routers to function as hubs, with Nest Wifi Pro, Nest Hub Max, and Nest Hub (2nd gen) acting as Thread border routers. Google is expanding resources in the Google Home Developer Center to assist developers in building Matter-enabled devices and apps, offering software development kits and tools for seamless integration. The "Works With Google Home" certification assures users of the compatibility of their Matter devices with Google Home and Android. The announcement also highlighted testimonials from Early Access Program partners like Eve Systems, Nanoleaf, Philips Hue, and Tuya, who praised their collaboration with Google in leveraging Matter’s potential. Google aims to introduce iOS support for Matter in early 2023 and is actively seeking user feedback to enhance its products further.
