Google Code-in: may the source be with you
Blog post from Google Cloud
Google Code-in (GCI) is an annual global competition aimed at pre-university students aged 13-17, providing them with the opportunity to learn and develop computer science skills by working on real software projects with guidance from mentors. Running for seven weeks, GCI allows students to choose from a diverse range of tasks offered by 14 open-source organizations, covering areas such as coding, documentation, quality assurance, and user interface design. The initiative is designed to inspire students to explore computer science beyond their initial encounters, such as the "hour of code," by engaging them in meaningful contributions to open-source projects in various fields, including healthcare, education, and technology. With beginner tasks available, the program encourages newcomers to find a coding community they enjoy, aiming for them to become active contributors in the future. Since its inception, over 2,200 students from 87 countries have participated, making it a significant event in promoting computer science education and open-source software development among young learners.
