Fast, reliable A2UI, with swappable inference formats
Blog post from Google Cloud
A2UI has introduced swappable inference formats to improve the speed and reliability of generative user interfaces, replacing direct generation of complex JSON trees with formats better suited to model inference. Its new default, A2UI Express, uses a compact Python-like syntax that is compiled by SDKs into validated A2UI messages, reportedly requiring up to three times fewer tokens and reducing latency by as much as threefold while preserving the ability to generate flexible component trees from a trusted catalog. Developers can also define custom DSLs and compilers without changing their catalogs or renderers, while macros can populate interfaces with data retrieved from existing systems. For screens with predetermined structures, the post highlights Apparite’s Jev-based approach, in which a System One decision model selects layouts and controls from predefined grammars while a smaller language model generates text, producing component trees in roughly 92 to 298 milliseconds in an early 11-prompt test. A2UI recommends decision-model-based controlled generation for recurring, well-defined layouts and Express for screens requiring broader expressive flexibility; Express is available in the Python, TypeScript, and Dart agent SDKs.
