Extending support for App Engine bundled services (Module 17)

App Engine, originally launched in 2008, offered a suite of bundled services that made it convenient for developers to build applications with features like databases, caching, and authentication, but limited them to running on App Engine. In 2018, a 2nd-generation service was introduced to increase app portability by offering open-source runtimes, though this required migrating away from these bundled services, posing challenges for users. Due to popular demand, access to most of these services was restored in 2021, allowing developers to upgrade to modern language runtimes like Python 3 while maintaining service access. The Serverless Migration Station provides resources and guidance for migrating to newer runtimes or other Google Cloud services, with modules aimed at easing the transition from App Engine's proprietary services to more flexible cloud solutions, such as Cloud Functions and Cloud Run. The initiative aims to support developers in modernizing their applications, leveraging both codelabs and video content, with a focus initially on Python, expanding to other languages in the future.
