Building a better smart home

Google is advancing the smart home industry by reimagining Google Home as a comprehensive platform for developers, enabling the creation of seamless, interconnected user experiences. Following the announcement at I/O 2024, Google has launched public developer beta of Home APIs, initially for Android and soon for iOS, facilitating the development of integrated smart home apps by nearly 2,000 interested developers. Partners such as Eve, Nanoleaf, LG, ADT, and Tuya Smart have already launched new apps using these APIs, with others like Cync and GE Appliances joining soon. At CES 2025, these partners will showcase automation and device control features enabled by the platform. Google's commitment to connectivity is further evidenced by its investment in Matter, providing a hub for Google Home to enhance seamless, secure device interactions, and partnering with Apple and Samsung to streamline certification processes for developers. Additionally, Google is working with MediaTek on a new chip to make Thread technology more accessible and affordable for device manufacturers. These efforts aim to foster innovation and interoperability, making the vision of a fully connected smart home increasingly attainable.
