Announcing Android Studio Arctic Fox (2020.3.1) & Android Gradle plugin 7.0
Blog post from Google Cloud
Android Studio Arctic Fox (2020.3.1) is the latest release on the canary channel, introducing a new versioning scheme that aligns more closely with IntelliJ IDEA, the underlying platform for Android Studio, and features a year-based system to enhance clarity and ease of use. This release, accompanied by Android Gradle plugin 7.0.0-alpha01, decouples the versioning of Android Studio from the Gradle plugin, allowing developers to update the IDE without affecting their app build processes. The release addresses over 200 quality improvements and bug fixes and introduces new features such as the Layout Validation Tool and Wireless ADB integration for MacOS users. The update also supports Jetpack Compose enhancements, including deploying @Preview composables to devices or emulators. The new versioning system provides major releases with codenames starting with Arctic Fox, facilitating the identification of newer versions.
