A new kind of computer: Chromebook
Blog post from Google Cloud
Announced on May 11, 2011, Chromebooks, developed by Google in collaboration with Samsung and Acer, offer a new computing experience centered around speed, simplicity, and security, primarily through the Chrome web browser. Unlike traditional computers, Chromebooks provide nearly instant boot times, automatic software updates, and enhanced security without the need for antivirus software. They promise day-long battery life, cloud-based accessibility to personal files, and optional 3G connectivity. Chromebooks will be available for purchase starting June 15 in multiple countries, including the U.S. and several European nations, through major retailers like Amazon and Best Buy. Google also unveiled Chromebooks for Business and Education, a service package including cloud management and enterprise support starting at $28 per user for businesses and $20 per user for schools, addressing the complex and costly challenges of traditional computing systems.
