Migrating repositories to GitLab just became easier

GitLab has developed Congregate, a utility designed to automate the large-scale migration of source code repositories to GitLab, which is now available under a source-available license. While smaller customers can use GitLab's import functionality for migrations, Congregate is a significant asset for those moving hundreds or thousands of repositories, as well as for channel services partners assisting with these migrations. Although GitLab Professional Services (PS) does not directly support partners using Congregate, they offer fee-based support engagements and necessary assistance for migrations to gitlab.com due to required elevated privileges. Congregate, built on GitLab's published APIs, optimizes performance through multiprocessing and provides auditability with a standard logging format, facilitating migrations from various source systems. To further support the migration process, GitLab is introducing a certification program for partners and customers, offering a learning path to become a certified GitLab migration engineer, thus ensuring high-quality migration services and encouraging community contributions to improve the tool.
