How we're improving migrations from Jenkins to GitLab CI/CD
Blog post from GitLab
Migrating from Jenkins to GitLab CI/CD can present challenges due to the complexity of Jenkins' plugin environment compared to GitLab's structure. GitLab has initiated the Jenkins Importer category to streamline this transition by providing tools and documentation aimed at simplifying the migration process. Although currently at a minimal maturity level, the category features a key project focused on developing a wrapper for the Jenkinsfile Runner, allowing teams to run Jenkins within GitLab while migrating their pipelines. This wrapper addresses the complexity of converting extensive Jenkins environments into GitLab CI/CD syntax. Additionally, there are proposals for tools to convert both declarative and scripted Jenkins configurations into GitLab-compatible YAML files. The initiative is open to public contributions and feedback, reflecting GitLab's commitment to facilitating easier migrations and enhancing its CI/CD offerings.
