How to make your DevOps team elite performers
Blog post from GitLab
The State of DevOps 2021 report by DORA, sponsored in part by GitLab, reveals a significant performance gap between elite and low-performing DevOps teams, which directly impacts a company's competitiveness and the personal value of team members. Elite teams are characterized by their ability to deploy code 973 times more frequently, have a 6,570 times faster lead time from commit to deploy, restore service in less than an hour, and maintain a change failure rate that is a third less likely to fail than their low-performing counterparts. To achieve elite status, teams should leverage hybrid and multi-cloud environments, adhere to NIST cloud computing standards, integrate DevOps with SRE practices, prioritize comprehensive documentation, incorporate security throughout development, and foster a strong team culture. The report notes a significant increase in elite DevOps teams, now at 26% of those surveyed, up from 7% in 2018, emphasizing the importance of improving performance to avoid being left behind in the industry.
