How to Get Started with Husky and Git Hooks
Blog post from GitKraken
Git hooks are scripts triggered by Git lifecycle events that help teams automate tasks, enforce standards, and reduce human error in development workflows. In JavaScript projects, Husky simplifies configuring and managing these hooks through package settings after installation with npm, allowing scripts to run at stages such as pre-commit. Common automations include validating branch names with validate-branch-name, compressing staged images through ImageOptim and lint-staged, formatting or linting staged code with Prettier, and running Jest tests before commits. Although hooks can support repository safety and consistency by checking changes automatically, developers can bypass them when necessary using the git commit --no-verify option.
