Get Git Info with GitLens
Blog post from GitKraken
GitLens is a Visual Studio Code extension designed to make Git repository history and code changes easier to inspect without leaving the IDE, addressing limitations in native Git workflows such as cumbersome revision navigation, line-by-line change tracking, and identification of recent contributors. Its free features include blame annotations showing the author and commit for each line, CodeLens information for files and code blocks, color-coded Git gutter change indicators and heatmaps, and side-by-side revision comparisons. GitLens+ adds collaboration-oriented capabilities, including Visual File History, which graphically displays a file’s evolution, contributors, and the relative size of changes, while some private-repository features require a Pro subscription. The post, sponsored by Syncfusion, argues that integrating these tools into VS Code can reduce application switching and help developers investigate changes and production issues more efficiently.
