From Preparation to Presentation: Hosting My First GitKraken Event

After missing conference opportunities in 2023 because of an academic internship, the author joined communities in 2024 and delivered a first workshop on GitKraken Client at Women Techmakers Bamenda’s International Women’s Day event. The session, titled “Impacting the Future of Version Control with GitKraken Client,” was designed for a largely beginner audience and covered Git GUI clients, the GitKraken interface, local and remote repositories, collaboration on an open-source project, pull requests, and features including the built-in terminal, commit graph, and Launchpad. Limited preparation time and a shortened workshop slot required the author to turn the planned hands-on session into a more presentation-based format, while audience questions helped guide the discussion. Participants responded positively, with many expressing surprise that Git could be used without command-line commands and seeking additional information afterward. Reflecting on the experience, the author identified time management, pacing, more demonstrations, and greater audience interaction as areas for improvement, while viewing the workshop as a successful first step in public speaking.
