Creating & Merging Pull Requests in VS Code
Blog post from GitKraken
Luca Del Puppo, a full-stack developer at Claranet IT with experience in .NET, Node.js, and React, explains how developers can manage GitHub pull requests entirely within Visual Studio Code to reduce context switching between an editor and the GitHub website. The workflow requires VS Code, the GitLens extension, and the GitHub Pull Requests and Issues extension, all of which provide repository, branch, and pull-request management capabilities. Using GitLens, developers can create and switch to a branch, make commits, and publish the local branch to GitHub before creating a pull request through the GitHub extension. Within VS Code, users can choose source and target branches, add titles and descriptions, review file diffs and commits, assign reviewers, apply labels or milestones, and manage pull-request details. The extension also enables users to locate open pull requests, select a merge strategy, merge and close the request, and delete local, remote, or both versions of the completed branch to keep repositories organized.
