Celebrating a Decade of GitKraken
Blog post from GitKraken
GitKraken marks its 10th anniversary by recounting its evolution from a 30-day cross-platform Git GUI project launched by Axosoft in 2015 into a global developer-experience company. The company introduced paid Desktop plans in 2016 while supporting initiatives such as the Nightscout Foundation and the GitHub Student Developer Pack, then expanded through a 2020 investment from Resurgens Technology Partners, its 2021 rebrand from Axosoft, and acquisitions including Git Integration for Jira, GitLens, and later CodeSee. Its community initiatives have included GitKon, an international ambassador program, and a Git certification course, while recent product development has added a DevEx Platform, AI capabilities, a CLI, and an MCP Server. The retrospective attributes the company’s growth to developer adoption, community engagement, expanded global talent, and a workplace culture recognized through Great Place to Work certifications from 2023 through 2025.
