Survey: The AI wave continues to grow on software development teams

In a survey conducted by GitHub, involving 2,000 developers from the U.S., Brazil, Germany, and India, over 97% of participants reported using AI coding tools, although the extent of company support for these tools varied significantly by region. The U.S. showed the highest support at 88%, while Germany was the lowest at 59%. Despite widespread individual usage, a gap exists between usage and organizational encouragement, indicating room for broader adoption strategies. Respondents noted that AI tools enhance productivity, code quality, and security, facilitating tasks like system design and collaboration while easing the learning of new programming languages. However, for AI tools to fulfill their potential, organizations must establish strategic policies that align with local regulations and focus on trust and measurable outcomes. The study also highlighted that proficiency in AI tools is increasingly viewed as a valuable asset in the job market, suggesting a shift toward AI becoming a standard component of software development processes.
