Seven years of open source: A more secure and diverse ecosystem

Security has emerged as a major concern, with a substantial majority emphasizing secure by design practices when adopting new projects. AI tools are increasingly utilized, with 72% of respondents incorporating technologies like GitHub Copilot into their work. The community has become more diverse, with increased representation of ethnic minorities and immigrants since the previous survey. GitHub is actively supporting open source security by investing $1.25 million through the Secure Open Source Fund, urging further collaboration among organizations and governments to foster a more inclusive and resilient open source future.
