In the ongoing "Building GitHub" series, GitHub outlines a new process for releasing features to GitHub Enterprise Server (GHES) customers through Release Candidates (RCs), which are early builds allowing customers to test upcoming features. This initiative aims to enhance collaboration with customers, enabling them to identify bugs and provide feedback that can be used to improve the quality of final releases. As each RC is released, it will come with accompanying release notes, and the number of RC versions will be determined by customer feedback and the resolution of issues. While RCs can be upgraded to and from general availability (GA) releases, they are intended for deployment in test or staging environments and are not covered under long-term support. Production releases will maintain their current numbering system, and patch releases will not be issued as RCs. GitHub emphasizes that customer testing and feedback are crucial to refining GHES, and more details will be shared at the upcoming GitHub Universe event.
