GitHub Universe 2026: Evolving every layer of the stack
Blog post from GitHub
GitHub outlines a vision for an agentic software delivery system in which developers remain accountable for decisions and shipped work while AI agents help implement, verify, and improve changes across a non-linear development lifecycle. Announced at GitHub Universe, new capabilities include an agent-focused GitHub Copilot app, Copilot Fusion for automatic multi-model orchestration, Copilot projects for managing parallel work across repositories, session continuity across devices and tools, learning-enabled automations, and a more intensive Copilot code review Max mode for detecting serious issues. GitHub Enterprise customers can now access Copilot features without a separate subscription, paying instead for AI credits used. To support growing agent-driven workloads, GitHub reports major infrastructure expansion, including additional compute, storage, and network capacity, a planned multi-region Azure migration, and a redesigned Git architecture focused on simpler primitives, separated storage and compute, and reduced coordination.
