GitHub's presence had been notably absent from Africa despite years of global engagement through various events, prompting a call to action to address this gap. Zach Holman, along with a colleague, visited Cape Town, South Africa, to speak at Scaleconf and host an informal gathering at Wakame for both conference attendees and locals. This event aimed to foster community interaction and allowed participants to connect with GitHub representatives and enjoy informal networking opportunities, complete with the chance to collect GitHub-themed stickers.
