GitHub hosted the inaugural Git Merge conference in Berlin from May 9-11, 2013, at the Radisson Blu Berlin, providing a platform for Git core developers and users to connect, discuss their projects, and share interests. Originating from the GitTogether meetings at Google's campus, the conference aimed to bring Git developers in the EU together for collaboration. It was structured over three days: Developer Day, User Day, and Hack Day. Developer Day featured around 30 contributors discussing topics like incremental merge tools and race conditions, while User Day allowed for over 40 lightning talks and small group discussions on Git-related issues. Hack Day was an opportunity for attendees to collaborate on projects with newfound acquaintances. The conference notes and recorded talks, including highlights such as Roberto Tyley’s bfg-repo-cleaner and a presentation on the German federal law repository on GitHub, were shared online.
