For Good First Issue: Introducing a new way to contribute

GitHub has launched "For Good First Issue," a platform designed to connect developers with open source projects that have a social impact, particularly those recognized as Digital Public Goods (DPGs) that support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The initiative aims to address the challenge of aligning developers with nonprofit projects that often lack the funding and resources to implement tech solutions for societal issues. The platform offers a curated list of projects, such as Human Essentials, an inventory management system for essentials banks, and ODK, a mobile data collection platform, inviting developers to contribute their technical expertise to enhance these tools. By providing this avenue for contribution, GitHub hopes to bridge the gap between open source technology and positive global change, encouraging developers to engage with issues like poverty, education, and climate change through their skills.
