Five years after its launch, GitHub has grown from a small Git-hosting service into a prominent platform with 3.5 million users managing 6 million repositories. Initially, during its private beta phase, GitHub attracted 6,000 users and supported 2,500 repositories. Co-founded by Tom Preston-Werner and his colleagues, the platform has expanded to include 158 team members who are committed to enhancing collaboration among its vast user community. Tom expresses pride and gratitude towards the GitHub community for their role in building better software collectively and looks forward to the future growth of the platform.
