GitHub has launched initiatives to support the open-source ecosystem by introducing the GitHub Accelerator and the M12 GitHub Fund, aiming to foster careers and startups in open source. Meanwhile, the $10 million M12 GitHub Fund, in collaboration with Microsoft's venture arm, targets seed-stage open-source developer tools, with the first investment in CodeSee, which aids developers in understanding their code repositories. These efforts are part of GitHub's broader strategy to enhance the open-source economy, exemplified by the success of GitHub Sponsors, which has raised over $25 million for developers and projects, and underscores the importance of supporting maintainers to enable full-time contributions to open source.
