Demetris Cheatham, GitHub's new Senior Director of Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DI&B) Strategy, embraces her role focused on integrating DI&B into GitHub's business strategy and internal functions, with a particular emphasis on racial equity. Although she did not actively seek this position, she was drawn to GitHub's intentional approach to DI&B, which aligns with her passion for fostering an inclusive tech industry. Cheatham's career path includes diverse experiences, from being the first woman and youngest executive director of the National Bar Association to leading significant racial equity legislation, which she now channels into her work at GitHub. Her role involves collaborating across various teams to advance a global DI&B strategy centered on People, Platform, Philanthropy, and Policy, with the aim of making GitHub a home for all developers. She is committed to leveraging her personal and professional experiences to make tech industries more inclusive and plans to explore and engage with GitHub's community and culture in her initial 90 days.
