EdgeDB 3.0 introduces a host of new features and improvements, heavily influenced by user feedback, aimed at enhancing the developer experience with this graph-relational database. Building upon the foundation of PostgreSQL, this version improves database efficiency and streamlines user interactions through a high-level strict data model, advanced query language features in EdgeQL, and a robust TypeScript query builder. Notable enhancements include a revamped schema declaration syntax, triggers, mutation rewrites, and an improved graphical user interface that supports a new Web REPL and visual query builder. The release also brings the analyze command for query analysis, new set operators, and the ext::pgvector extension for efficient data embedding processing, all while maintaining a 100% open-source commitment. EdgeDB 3.0 continues to support native Java and Elixir drivers and introduces EdgeDB Cloud in closed beta, with a new release strategy promising major updates every four months, including Long Term Support versions.
