With the introduction of Deferred Static Generation (DSG) in Gatsby 4, Gatsby Cloud has enhanced its ability to significantly reduce publishing times for static sites, complementing the previously launched Incremental Builds feature. Incremental Builds, which update only the modified HTML content, have already decreased build times by 90% for many teams using data sources like Contentful and WordPress, allowing rapid updates for sites with thousands of pages. DSG further accelerates the process by deferring the generation of non-essential pages until they are requested by users, which is particularly beneficial for large sites with less frequently accessed content. While Incremental Builds focus on real-time content regeneration, DSG optimizes the deployment phase by ensuring that only necessary pages are built initially, with additional pages generated on demand. Users can leverage both features on Gatsby Cloud with a paid plan, maximizing efficiency in a Jamstack environment.
