Building a large, internationalized e-commerce website with Gatsby at Daniel Wellington
Blog post from Gatsby
Daniel Wellington embarked on a project to improve the performance of its e-commerce website by migrating to Gatsby, aiming to support approximately 40 international markets with around 10,000 to 50,000 pages. This transition faced challenges such as lengthy build times due to complex GraphQL queries, which were optimized by running them only when necessary and splitting the website into smaller, more manageable segments based on locale. This restructuring reduced build times significantly and improved the preview experience for content managers, who can now request builds for specific markets. The production process benefits from static generation, allowing the team to preview the exact website users will see, ensuring any issues are identified in staging environments before going live. Although the migration is ongoing, the team remains confident in Gatsby's capabilities and invites interested developers to join their efforts in Stockholm.
