Frigade has open-sourced Trench, their internal analytics infrastructure designed for high-volume event tracking and real-time querying, as a solution to the limitations faced when using Postgres for large-scale user event tracking. Built on ClickHouse and Kafka, Trench is optimized for scalability and sustainability, supporting thousands of events per second on a single server, and is compliant with the Segment API for ease of integration. The system offers rapid deployment using a single Docker image, real-time data querying, and supports data connections through throttled webhooks. As an open-source tool licensed under MIT, Trench is available for personal or commercial use, providing a robust solution for both startups and large operations to manage event tracking efficiently.
