Give Your AI Security Agent a Kali VM
Blog post from Freestyle
Kali Linux 2026.3 is available on Freestyle as a preconfigured VM snapshot for AI-assisted penetration testing and reverse engineering, providing 4 vCPUs, 8 GiB of memory, 32 GB of disk, and tools including Nmap, sqlmap, Metasploit, radare2, binutils, Python, and OpenSSH. Users can create persistent Kali workspaces, explicitly control network access, connect to targets through private networks or limited external rules, and pause or resume investigations without losing files, notes, installed tools, or running processes. The recommended pentesting workflow emphasizes clear assessment scope, bounded discovery, hypothesis-driven testing, retained requests and responses, normal control comparisons, and reproducible evidence rather than relying solely on scanner output. For reverse engineering, it recommends preserving original artifacts and hashes, conducting static triage, documenting assumptions and observations, and branching from snapshots before executing or modifying binaries. Snapshots can create independent experimental environments, although they preserve only the VM state and do not reset remote applications or databases, which require separate fixtures or checkpoint mechanisms for repeatable testing.
