Summary

Fly.io introduces mcp.fly.io, an MCP server designed to connect AI coding agents with Sprites development environments and Fly.io production applications, responding to rapid growth in agent-created infrastructure. Sprites provide persistent Linux-based sandboxes where agents can install packages, retain files, run long-lived services, expose HTTPS endpoints, and create filesystem checkpoints, allowing them to test applications in conditions closer to real deployment. When an application needs greater availability, agents can move it to Fly Machines, which use a similar Linux environment and therefore reduce the complexity of migration. Through the MCP server, authorized agents can create Machines, volumes, and secrets for selected apps directly from the same workflow used to build the project. Fly.io is also exploring support for managed Postgres capabilities, including backups and failover, while the beta service uses browser-based authorization and scoped permissions to limit agent access to approved organizations, apps, and infrastructure resources.
