How to put your AI agent to work on feature flags with the Flagsmith CLI
Blog post from Flagsmith
Flagsmith presents its CLI as a way to reduce the effort of adopting and operating feature flags, particularly when AI coding agents can integrate SDKs, create and describe flags, select flag types, and retrofit existing codebases or environment-variable settings into managed flags. The CLI can also support open-source projects, call the Flagsmith API when dedicated commands are unavailable, and act as a feature-flag client in CI/CD pipelines through its evaluate command and OIDC-based machine authentication. To limit automation risks, Flagsmith recommends role-based access controls and notes that user credentials are short-lived and stored in operating-system keychains. The tool was designed with clear errors, recovery guidance, and practical help examples to make it understandable to both agents and developers, reflecting testing with agents during development. Flagsmith chose a general-purpose CLI over an agent-only integration because it serves terminal users, CI/CD workflows, and AI agents, and it plans to add skills for experimentation, gradual releases, and enterprise permissions; the CLI is open source.
