The Best Company Funding Data API in 2026: What an Independent Benchmark Found
Blog post from Firecrawl
Openbenchmarks’ August–September 2026 evaluation compared 23 configurations from 17 company funding-data providers using shared company domains and reviewed ground truth, measuring accuracy of the latest funding stage separately for rounds announced within 30 days and for older historical rounds. The results indicate that live-web research agents and search APIs generally perform best on recent announcements, while maintained GTM databases offer faster, more predictable lookups but can lag on newly announced funding. Firecrawl’s agent configurations recorded the highest individual results, with 100% freshness for Spark 2 and 92.3% historical enrichment for Spark 1 Mini, while Parallel, Exa, and Crunchbase also scored strongly in selected categories. Web-search options such as Exa’s instant search provided comparatively high freshness with much lower latency and cost than research agents, whereas database providers such as Fiber and Crunchbase were more competitive for historical records. The benchmark notes that only funding-stage correctness was evaluated directly, while the presence rather than accuracy of other fields, including amounts and investors, was counted. Provider selection therefore depends on the use case: live-web tools for timely funding alerts, research agents or strong databases for historical CRM enrichment, lower-cost search for large-scale enrichment, and fast database or search lookups for user-facing applications.
