Introducing Alexandria and our $75M Series B
Blog post from Firecrawl
Firecrawl announced a $75 million Series B led by Smash Capital, with participation from several venture firms, to expand its effort to make more reliable knowledge accessible to AI agents while compensating data and content providers. Its new Alexandria platform combines live-web access, official data providers, proprietary indexes, custom connectors, and workflows through a common Firecrawl API, allowing agents to discover, understand, and retrieve information without managing separate integrations. Built after Firecrawl’s founders encountered web-data reliability challenges while developing the documentation chatbot Mendable, the company now serves more than 1.5 million users and aims to address agents’ need for sources beyond ordinary search and scraping. Alexandria includes indexes for scientific research, developer materials, and government information, and Firecrawl reports that agents using it achieved 21% higher answer quality across 845 evaluated tasks than agents using built-in web tools. The company already pays providers such as Wikimedia Enterprise for data access and plans to introduce a self-service system enabling individuals, creators, organizations, and eventually AI agents to earn from knowledge and discoveries they contribute.
