Trippy, developed in Cameroon, won the Gemini API Developer Competition after standing out among nearly a thousand Firebase app submissions for its comprehensive AI-powered travel planning experience. Built with Gemini and Firebase, the app generates personalized itineraries across more than 223 countries, recommends flights, hotels, attractions, and events based on traveler interests, provides multilingual reviews and contextual chat support, tracks expenses from receipt images with currency conversion, and includes travel-themed games. The announcement notes that, as of August 2026, Vertex AI in Firebase has been renamed Firebase AI Logic and Vertex AI has become Agent Platform, while presenting Trippy as an example of how natural-language AI could consolidate travel planning, booking, and in-trip assistance into one application.
