Simplifying apparel purchasing using Firebase Realtime Database
Blog post from Firebase
FAVES, founded by CEO Ulla Hald with CTO Mark Turner, is a collaborative mobile app designed to help small and medium-sized apparel retailers manage inventory purchasing, budgets, orders, and delivery planning through a visual interface likened to a combination of Instagram and Excel. The company evolved from a product curation tool into a broader purchase-planning platform intended to give independent retailers capabilities similar to those of large chains, reducing reliance on spreadsheets and helping avoid overbuying. Firebase supports the app’s real-time collaboration, offline synchronization, scalable database, and infrastructure-free development, allowing teams to work even with unreliable network connections. FAVES also uses Cloud Functions and Google Cloud Vision to scan and interpret product tags, with more than 50 functions supporting analytics, reporting, and third-party integrations such as Shopify. Additional Firebase services, including Authentication, Analytics, Crashlytics, and Hosting, support onboarding, product insights, stability monitoring, and a Chrome extension that imports wholesale orders directly into the app.
