Introducing The Cloud Storage for Firebase Emulator

Firebase has released a Cloud Storage for Firebase emulator as part of the Firebase Emulator Suite, enabling developers to test storage-related functionality locally without connecting to production services. Available through the Firebase CLI and compatible with Web, Android, iOS, and Node.js Admin SDKs, it supports file uploads and downloads, metadata changes, and Cloud Storage security rule evaluation. The emulator integrates with Firebase Authentication and Cloud Functions emulators to support more complete end-to-end local testing, while Firebase plans to expand support for advanced Storage features based on user feedback. Developers can begin by updating to Firebase CLI version 9.11.0 or later, initializing Cloud Storage and Emulator settings with `firebase init`, and starting the suite with `firebase emulators:start`, which runs the Storage emulator on localhost port 9199 by default.
