Introducing ML Kit for Firebase
Blog post from Firebase
Google introduced ML Kit in beta at Google I/O as a Firebase SDK designed to make machine learning features accessible to Android and iOS developers regardless of their expertise. It provides ready-to-use APIs for text recognition, face detection, barcode scanning, image labeling, and landmark recognition, with planned additions for smart replies and detailed face contours. Developers can choose between fast, offline-capable on-device processing and more accurate cloud-based APIs, while advanced users can deploy and dynamically update custom TensorFlow Lite models through Firebase without increasing app package size. ML Kit also explores model compression to reduce the size of machine learning models and integrates with Firebase services such as Remote Config, A/B Testing, Cloud Firestore, Performance Monitoring, and Google Analytics for experimentation, storage, measurement, and engagement analysis.
